I'd most like a 4v4ctf tournament, though I'm unsure whether or not we'd have enough good teams able to commit a team of four every week to play. But if people think that a tournament of this format would run successfully (i.e. expected number of games with less than eight players is sufficiently close to zero) then I would really like to try it. I think that 4v4ctf allows for much better gameplay than 3v3, since in a sensible 3v3 game, there's always an attacker or defender playing solo, whereas in 4v4, this can be avoided; hence more emphasis is put on teamwork and imo it is generally more epic.

Quake Live Major Tournaments use 4v4, and I too prefer it, but we really don't have the depth or availability to run a 4v4 tournament. I know pride wouldn't be able to field a team weekly, zero probably couldn't, and lzr would be hard pressed, let alone most of the other clans.

I would also really like to try a "Nacho Cup"-like format, with four duel games and one tdm game. I prefer the four-duel to the two-duel match format, since it feels more "balanced" to me (everyone duels everyone), and also avoids the necessity of assigning "rankings" (arbitrary or otherwise) to team members. To make a match of this format not last forever, and also to make each individual game feel appropriately less important, I'd suggest having a timelimit of 10 minutes per game. I'd also suggest only one or two minutes' warmup per game; if anybody really feels the need for more than this, she should have no problem arranging extra warmup with her teammate shortly before the game starts.
Yeh 10 minute games with 2 minute warmup would be about an hour, which is what we currently play for with Medley. Most people use the 5 minutes warmup to get technical issues sorted etc atm.

How about a PUG Tournament .... Bitchz (harry's gonna say CLASSIC now)

We've been playing pug for more than a month now and we all love it because of its emphasis on BALANCED games, I know that I enjoy pug games more than some tourney games.
What we could do is get the top six players picking teams from the players interested in participating. A 3v3 ctf or 4v4 ctf could be possible. Idk about rules and how we could do it but I know its possible, other members please weigh in.
We can have crazy team names and heaps of smurfing, like what zero did in the medley with the reincarnation of GT. Its something new where different players could play with others not in a clan based environment (we had too many clan games already) and where the finalist aren’t the usual suspects.

Something that not even RABS can predict!

P.S: I’m a Genius

No, we aren't really, you can read some of my thoughts here. The way I see it, PUG is fun to play because it is balance public ctf. Tournaments are fun to play because you can develop as a team, developing chemistry and a distinct play style. After a while, you get good at playing with each other, which makes it more fun, and you have a greater desire to win with each other. This leads to teams sticking together and wanting to play each week. Teams that are scrounged together die (and in some cases quit mid way through matches), as evidenced by most of our tourneys. I wouldn't want to jeapordise the whole tournament because some players decide to just stop playing, leaving half the tournaments teams without a full complement. Simply picking up a new player would not work in this case, as you can see by PUG, if someone comes late it inevitably destroys the balance created by the draft system.

"PUG [ctf] Tournament" might sound nice at first, but it's really quite a risky format, and in practice I think it would not work too well. There would be no guarantee that the team you ended up in would be one you enjoyed playing in, so particiupating could easily stop being fun. Some teammates would probably feel no strong sense of loyalty to the team, and so as rabs said, there would probably be a few people bailing partway through the tournament. Both of these things can happen in a typical night of PUG, but there it only lasts for fifteen minutes max... if we played an entire PUG Tournament then I think that there would be several teams that really did not enjoy it. So overall I would rather not play such a tourney.

Having said that, if our next tournament is a 2v2 format (which is my preferred option right now), then clans will be forced to split up, and basically each player will pick a partner or two (with no clan affiliation required) and play. This would mean that there'd be a larger number of teams, and most likely also a larger number of really close matches, and I think final rankings in such a tournament would be very hard to predict accurately before a good number of games have been played. To me, this format feels like a balance between clan-dominated tournaments we have had in the past, and the essentially randomness-dominated PUG Tournament suggested here. Therefore we should play four-duel 2v2tdm "Nacho Cup"-style tournament. Q.E.D.

I F1 ur idea of 2v2tdm haz
and
-------> So does she,
BUT don't jizz in ur pants yet
There is a slight issue, as u mentioned any player can pair up with any player and no clan affliation required, so there is a possibilities that the following teams could form
Team 1: aurix, haz (maybe unlikely, but we r looking at possibilities)
Team 2: Rabs, trev (very likely)
Team 3: bones_was_here, wayno
Team 4: Carny, Bogs
and u also mentioned the following:

looking at the above teams, i think that it is actually pretty easy to predict who'll come first and who'll come last, and i think the predictibility makes it less competitive and enjoyable.
So we have to find away to overcome that, i suggest we categorise people in two groups, high skilled and mediuim skill, and no two high skill players can pair together,so a team should consist of a high and medium skill players, this could reduce the predictibilty, any other suggestions are welcome.

Due to i <3 the xa clans (when they're being good sports :P), I don't think I'll participate in a non-clans tourney (other than a duel ladder), but am happy to support other types of tourney as an admin or w/e.

i think a non clan tourney would be good, aslong as someone can peace together like 5+ even teams i think it would be a good even taunament instead of just everyother clan except the pride zero and lzr always just beating everyone else
